I last visited Bukit Dinding in 2015, accessing via the Jalan 6/27a trailhead, just beside a coconut shake stall.

Located north east of Kuala Lumpur City, this popular ‘neigbourhood’ hill is frequented by residents of Wangsa Maju / Setiawangsa. Activities include walking, hiking and mountain biking.
Enthusiasts have a choice of a 2.6km uphill on tarmac road or winding forest trails to the telecommunication towers at the peak.
In August 2020, we took a different route, entering from the Puncak Setiawangsa water tank in Bukit Setiawangsa residential area. I find this route more forgiving, requiring less effort as the trailhead starts at a higher elevation with a more gentle incline.

The undulating trail follows a north-easterly direction, is shaded and flush with greenery on both sides. I enjoyed the easy walk, making it to the peak in less than 30 minutes. At the top, we skirted along the back fencing to the open area in front.

Recalling the vibrant wildlife amongst the foliage from past visits, I eyeballed the shrubbery and was not disappointed. I spotted butterflies flitting among the colourful blooms while bugs perched on leaves.

Having reached the peak, we decided to explore a bit, but were careful not to enter into the downward trail to Jalan 6/27a. Multiple signs posted at strategic spots states that this mountain biking trail is
OFF LIMITS TO HIKERS.
Instead, we circumvented to the right, before rejoining the trail we came up on. Heading the opposite direction this time, we chanced upon a spider with three of its legs… missing!

Descending south at a trail fork, we detoured west to the lookout point for a view of Setiawangsa.

Back on track, we continued downhill, deviating left to the Agro Farm to visit with the animals in their pens. and the AU3 Keramat water reservoir, linked by an access road to Jalan 15/56. On the ascent out, we explored further along the uphill trail and discovered a well tended vegetable patch.

Retracing our steps back to the junction, we followed along the western edge, before descending a little ways down a cascade drain to a lower terrace. Keeping left, we walked along the terrace and soon emerged at an open field. From there is was a easy walk back to the road.
