Sky Mirror, Kuala Selangor

A visit to Sky Mirror is like a Jumanji adventure – where hidden dangers and pre-historic creatures lurk around every corner. Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride!

Jurassic Island – somewhere in the Strait of Malacca.

Totally submerged most of the time, this unchartered island is only revealed briefly at low tide, for about 3 to 4 hours.

First off the boat on a bright sunny day, all seemed peaceful and calm with gentle waves lapping the shore while a light sea breeze caressed the air.

On the lookout for seashells and crabs, I saw a big circular mass which resembled a stingray.

It turned out to be a gigantic jellyfish with pink tentacles. Sashimi 😋

All of a sudden, we were swept up by a gust of wind and in danger of being blown away. Luckily, anchorwoman Joyce kept us grounded.

Barely done catching our breath when, out of nowhere, a T-rex with very BIG, SHARP TEETH appeared and decided to have us for LUNCH.

Something (or someone) distracted our pursuer, and we were spared.

Alerted by a loud commotion, we rushed forward to prop up the wobbling Eiffel tower…

and came face-to-face with the culprit. We had two options…

Plan A : Stand and Fight

Plan B : Give Kong a ❤️

Again, Joyce saved the day.

We jumped for JOY-ce and broke into a dance.

Belatedly, one twin discovered her superpower and put it to practice…

Hand Blast

Putting hands together, Supertwin fired a powerful wave of energy, attempting to blast twin brother to Isla Nublar.

Jumanji quest completed
We successfully explored unchartered territory, survived attacks by fierce predators and force of nature threats, to earn our way home.
Great teamwork!

Finally out of danger, we indulged in some photo fun.

Popularly known as Sky Mirror, this mysterious island is actually a huge sandbank that is visible only at low tide. The mirror effect happens when a thin layer of water transforms the ‘island’ into a stunning reflection of the sky, giving rise to incredible photo opportunities.

When the tide goes out, the ‘island’ is flooded with boatloads of people eager to experience the magic of Sky Mirror.

While waiting for our tour operator to set up equipment for the perspective photoshoot, we checked out the island’s marine life, taking pictures and just enjoyed being out in the middle of the sea.

We went with Sky Mirror World & Boat Cafe, which I booked via Klook. The meeting point at Boat Cafe is ideal as guests can wait comfortably while enjoying the facilities of a cafe & washroom.

Do allocate 2 to 3 hours for the trip as the boat ride takes 30 – 40 minutes each way, with roughly an hour on the island. For the photoshoot, the Sky Mirror World team guided us on where to stand / pose and provided props to get the desired effect. And if we wanted a shot taken in a particular manner, they were happy to accommodate us.

Though we took turns for the picture taking, we did not mind the wait, as it gave us a chance to observe how the mirror effect and perspective shots were achieved. Instead of sharing with you how it is done, I strongly urge you to experience it for yourself.

Overall, the boat trip is well organised, communication is easy with excellent service. Other boat tours include Eagle Feeding, Blue Tears and Firefly watching.

Another must-do in Kuala Selangor is the delicious seafood. We feasted on crab, mantis shrimp, lala together with some greens at a restaurant by the riverbank.

This charming fishing village’s old town continues to be enlivened with yet another colourful corridor of murals running through the old town.
